Marilyn Monroe is widely known as an actress, singer and modern sex symbol. She became a model when she turned 20 years old, working at first for Blue Book Modeling Agency. She was quickly signed by 20^th Century Fox and Columbia pictures, but did not make it big as fast or as easily. She posed nude in 1949 for photographer Tom Kelley and “hung out” with famous directors and producers at a rate of $500 per day.

Raquel Welch (pictured to the right) was a sex symbol even before appearing as one in the movie One Million Years B.C. Under her maiden name, Raquel Tejada, she became known as a high-end escort before becoming an actress. She became a model for Neiman Marcus while also working as a cocktail waitress. Comfortable with her life as a courtesan, Welch also posed nude for Playboy in 1979.  

Sophia Loren began working as an escort during World War II in order to help her family. She met her clients through a bar her mother opened in their home in Italy. The bar drew many American soldiers who soon became her clients. At that time Loren was known under the nickname “La Simpatica”. All this was before she met her husband and became a famous movie star.
