7 Tips to Stay Healthy on Your Vacation

03.05.19

Ready for a well-deserved holiday? We bet you are, seeing how hard you’ve worked since the beginning of this year. You’ve earned your time off, and, if you already know where you’ll be headed soon, have a blast!

In case you still have no clue where to go and de-stress, may we suggest something with lots of sun, exotic food, beaches, and such? It will be a great opportunity to relax either alone or with your friends. However, keep in mind that even if you’re somewhere amazing having the time of your life, you won’t be safe from medical problems. Which is why we’re here with recommendations for your first aid kit so you can have fun without worrying about a thing.

Jet lags

These are such a bummer… Worry not, we have something for the pain: melatonin tablets. Our advice is to plan a visit to your doc a week before you’re off on vacation. He or she will prescribe these tablets and teach you how to take them. Usually, you should take one melatonin tablet 30 minutes before you sleep. But don’t trust us on this, talk to a specialist, and, most importantly, don’t take too many.

As soon as you ingest this wonder product, your brain and body will help you reset your usual sleep and wake cycle. Good bye jet lags!

No pain, yes gain

Who likes the effects of a hangover? No one, that’s who. If you like to drink but you hate experiencing nasty hangovers, we recommend anti-inflammatory drugs. As we already told you above, go to your doctor about it, and see what they give you. Whatever it is, it will take your pain away. The pills you’ll be given will also work for other problems, like headaches, tooth aches, and so on.

Sunburns

For this one we’d suggest staying out of the sun, but we know you love doing it, so instead we recommend using a good ol’ sunblock with SPF 30 or higher. Should you forget to take it with you and your skin gets all red and painful, make sure you keep a gel containing Aloe Vera close-by. Apply a little and your skin will experience a cooling and soothing effect very soon.

Make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, too. Taking a cool bath or shower also work. As do essential oils like, for example, lavender. If your lips are sunburnt, apply some petroleum jelly. For sunburnt eyelids, teabags soaked in cold water and applied on them will reduce the inflammation and soothe the skin there.

Insect bites

Those are the worst, especially when you’re on holiday. Never ever scratch a bite, ladies and gents. Instead, use an antihistamine tablet prescribed by your health professional.

Diarrhea

Spending your free days on the loo is no one’s idea of fun. If it hits you, better have a couple of rehydration sachets along with Imodium at the ready. The latter is a drug which makes your stools so much less watery. The sachets help replace the salts and water you lose through diarrhea. Win-win.

Dry and red eyes

Long flights have that effect on our eyes. To protect them from problems, have several artificial tears with you at all times. Our advice is to buy some that don’t contain preservatives.

Blister plasters

Not being able to wear your favorite pair of shoes because you have blisters can turn your holiday into a nightmare. To avoid annoying situations, pack your trusted blister plasters.
