Butt acne in the swimsuit season!

30.06.22

Yeah, you’ve heard that right, we are going to talk about something that most ladies may find is taboo, a topic that causes a lot of shame and stress among women: those obnoxious, painful, and unpleasant red bumps that bother us all especially during summertime: butt acne!

The thing about butt acne is that is not the same type of acne that appears on our faces, even the reason why the pimples appear on our butt cheeks tend to be different. When you see, or feel, a nasty red bump on you butt it may be two things: folliculitis or acne.

Butt folliculitis appears due to the constant friction of your body hair, that irritates the follicles, while butt acne is caused by clogging of the pores caused by sweat, heat, dirt, and excess of oil on our skin.

Do NOT squeeze these red bumps! It will cause you even more pain and the inflammation will grow, while the overall aspect of your bootie will be compromised.

This is what you can do, in terms of activities that may be integrated into your daily routine:

Use a special washing product

You can opt for a high-quality anti-bacterial soap, or you can buy a product that has salicylic acid in it, because it will unclog your pores, will smooth the inflammation, and will also help you avoid being left with annoying scars or dark spots after the inflammation has passed.

Also, make sure to wash at least two times a day, in the morning an in the evening, to reduce the formation of acne and clear any dirt or bacteria that builds up in the area, due to intense sweating.

Exfoliate your bootie

Do not start using harsh exfoliating formulas or start exfoliating once or twice a day. Introduce exfoliation in your routine and try doing it 2 to 3 times a week. Use gentle exfoliators and a soft luffa, because rubbing the skin on your butt with something abrasive will only make things worse. Apply your acid-base body wash and rub it in with a silicone scrubber. Then, after getting your skin dry you can apply an exfoliating serum, something with an AHA formula (alpha hydroxy acids) or a BHA (beta hydroxy acids, such as the salicylic acid).

Saltwater mixture

Make a mixture of one tablespoon of salt water to two cups of water and apply it with a cloth on the are where you have your pimples. The salt water may help the inflammation and hurry up the healing process.

Chemical peeling

Do you know all those serums that you use on your face for a brighter, more even look of your face?! You can try some of those on your butt to prevent acne from appearing. We are talking about mandelic acid, lactic acid and glycolic acid. These acids reduce hyperpigmentation and evens the surface of your skin. You can try it yourself at home, or if you want to go for a stronger concentration of acids in your treatment, you can go to a dermatologist or a beauty spa.

Massage with tea tree oil

After correctly cleansing and scrubbing of your skin you can apply tea tree oil and massage the area. The tea tree oil is famous for reducing inflammation and for its antibacterial properties. After applying it, let your skin breath, without jumping in clothes.

Other things that you can do to avoid the awful butt pimples is wear natural fabrics, especially during summertime, when due to heat we tend to sweat a lot more. Wear comfortable panties, made from cotton or silk, and try to avoid wearing latex clothes, leather outfits or other clothes that feel tight on your skin and keep the sweat from evaporating.

Another thing you can do is use a detergent with a sensitive formula, a baby detergent for example, and avoid using fabric softeners because they can also cause irritation of the skin, contact dermatitis, and can cause butt pimples to show up.

Try out advice above and flaunt that bootie out in the sun, in a skimpy bikini, without having to worry about butt pimples or butt acne!
